Welcome To Wexford Mixed Martial Arts
This page is intended to be a place to post all the latest news from within and relating to the club and its members.
November 2008
Its been a busy few weeks so we have been unable to update the site till now. We would like to take this chance to welcome our newest regular members to the club, which now include a number of female students
Site News
We will be launching Mark Porters Blog page in mid November. It is intended to be a place where Mark can keep people informed as to what is happening within the club as well as a means for Mark to explain in greater detail his views on mma and functional martial arts.
Following quiet a few requests from club members, we will also be launching a new gallery on the site. This will be a pictorial account of the clubs activities from training seminars to more regular class training.
Irish MMA League
We are delighted to be fielding a team for the final round of the Irish MMA League. It is intended to give the lads a bit of experience in competition fighting. We will be fielding a team of 9 club members. There will be 5 rookies and 4 members with a mixed martial arts background. The date is set for November 29th at UCD. We will post more info closer to the date.
Christmas Training Times
If you are intending to drop down, please note that the last day of training before the christmas break will be Tuesday 23rd December at 8pm. The club will reopen on 6th January at 8pm.
Steve Morris In Ireland
As a result of having Steve over twice last year, there has been a lot of interest from other clubs in the country in having him over. Dermot McGrath has invited Steve Morris over for a seminar in January 2009. Dermot will be hosting at his Pankration Fitness Centre in Limerick city. This is a superb facility and has a full sized "cage". Wexford MMA are intending to have Steve over at our more modest club in May or June. For a full review of our last seminor in October then check out our Seminar page by clicking the link Here
Liam McDonald Knife Defence Class 16th November
Liam Mcdonald has decided to give a knife defence class at the club this Sunday 16th. For more info then see the details at the Seminars/Events page.
September 2008
Due to the huge growth to both the club and the range of material we are now able to offer, there will be a few changes to the site over the next few weeks
First, we will be adding a blog page for Mark Porter, so that he can keep you informed of where the club is heading, as well as his views and opinions on all things mma. This will include his latest trip to Gracie Barra Birmingham and Primal
Mark Porter and Wexmma have been chosen by Liam Mc Donald as the south east representitives for promoting Lameco. We will be running a workshop in November with liam. This workshop is the official opening of the Wexford Valencia Lameco Training Group which intends to help students develop through the grading programme. For more info go to the Seminars/Eventspage
.We are also in the process of getting Steve Morris back over for another full on course. The date for this is on 4th October. This will be a follow on class from his June seminar. We are delighted to say that Steve has decided to add a 2 hour class on knife/weapons for this day.For full details please check out our Seminars/Events page.
Following requests from within the group we have decided to form a competition fight team. We intend to form a core group of both experienced and novice fighters. As the safety of our members is our main concern we hope to start entering a number of amateur/semi-pro competitions by the end of the year.
It has come to our attention from new members joining the club that we seem to have a reputation for being a highly aggressive, fight orientated club. The safety and well being of all club members is the number one priority of the club. This reputation is probibly as a result of our hands on and inovative approach to training. Yes we believe in tough training, but this is conducted in a controlled envoirnment with the health of those involved being at the fore of all activities
We were delighted to have had an article on the club printed in the September issue of Irish Fighter. We hope this will be the first of many and we appreciate the chance to get our unique approach across to the more main stream martial art world.
August 2008
Been a busy few weeks with the club. Once again a big hello to all our new regular members and we look forward to some energetic classes to come!
There has been a lot of interest lately in introducing a knife/weapons element to the class. This will probibly be run on a seperate day to regular training. We hope to have the basics set up over the coming months and hope to introduce it some time in september. Stay tuned for more info.
Mark attended the Felix Valencia course run by Liam MacDonald and has not stopped talking about it since. We will be adding links for those interested on our links page.
We are also gearing up for the Steve Morris seminar on October 4th. Again for those interested please check out our seminars/events page here.

Busy,Busy,Busy
It has been a bit of a busy month for us at wexmma and the site has not been updated as quickly as we would have liked. Sorry to all concerned.Over the past month we have had Mark Porter back from Seni'08, a visit from Sean Dillon of the The Muai Thai Council and of course the amazing seminar given by Steve Morris.
Mark Porter returned from seni'08 with more gusto than is normall, even for him. Overall he was very unimpressed with Seni'08 with a couple of exceptions. He attented seminars by Mick Coup, Somluck Kamsing and Steve Morris.
The Steve Morris course was fully booked, but Steve managed to secure another 30 places. Despite the drum music next door hindering communications, Steve pulled off an intense, energy sapping course.
Mark will be posting a full review of the course on his blog at a future date.
Sean Dillon was also in attendance at a seminar hosted by WexMMA during june. The class was fully attentitive to the tips passed down on the finer points of thai boxing and leg strikes.
And of coarse we had Steve Morris over on the 7th for an amazing session. You can head on over to the gallery page for a quick sample of events by clicking here. People travelled fom all corners of Ireland as well as England, some on a days notice. We will be posting a full review of the course as well as a list of all those who attended. We cannot be thankfull enough for the enthusiam and energy given by those who were there. Everyone was greatly empressed by both the approachability of the man as well as the depth of his knowledge. And the after dinner conversation with a few beers was an added bonus!!
Steve had a blast, to the extent that he is eager to return for a longer course. We will keep people posted as we get more info.
The site will be overgoing some changes in the next few days as we add more features, so please remember to click your refreash button when you visit the site.

Mark Porter has just recently returned from Seni '08. We will try to post a review from him on his own page at a further date. While there he attended seminars by Mick Coup, Steve Morris and Somluck Khamsing.
