Welcome To Our Upcoming Seminars And Events

Quick Review Of The Valencia Eskrima Workshop on Sunday 16th November

Thanks to all those in Wexmma who made the time and effort to make this workshop such a good event. And a special thanks to Liam McDonald who, along with being amazing at what he does, is also one of the nicest people we have ever meet.

On Sunday 16th Nov in Wexford Liam Mc Donald conducted the first workshop on Combat Silat and Lameco Eskrima at Mark Porter's Mixed Martial Arts Club. This was to launch the club as the Official Branch and Training Group for the South East, and Mark as the Representative.

Liam started of showing the various Knife Stalements and their counters, against the knife attacker using headbutts, elbows, knees, than learning how to defend using outside circles, elbows drops, tunnelling and disarms. After a short break we moved onto silat grappling and ground fighting techniques from the Malay system of Guyong Harimau, with special focus put on being able to flow from striking to locking and back again. After lunch students moved back onto footwork and timing in relation to the knife and got an introduction to knife sparring.

Quick Review Of Steve Morris Seminar of 4th October

Thank you to all those who made the October 4th seminar such an experience. Again the class was fully attended with people from all parts of the country with a mixed bag of skills and experience. Steve delivered a superb 6 hour class with a masterfull blend of ideas and an amazing ability to convey these ideas to everyone present.

The class covered a wide range of skills but of note was the time given to understanding the signifiance of impact, impact deliverance and hitting from the clinch.

Steve Morris can never be accused of thinking too linear and so he also did a 2 hour class on weapons and knife drills to round up an intence class. Mark Porter will be giving a fuller account of the seminar on his blog in mid november.

Steve Morris Latest Update For Seminar on June 7th 2008

OK. Its all go here. Steve Morris will be ariving in Dublin on June 6th and be in Wexford the next day. Steve is keen to be sure the course isn't just pitched to MMA, because what he'll be doing on the day is applicable to a much broader audience. Depending on the response to this course, he can do something more specific to MMA if there's a demand for it in the future; or he can move in another direction. But for now he wants to keep it completely open, pitched to a broad audience of martial artists.

We have asked Steve to provide people that are interested with a description of what he indends to teach on the day and this has been his response.......

The Morris Method teaches you how to break the fight down into its essential components and then devise exercises, drills and conditional fighting methods by which to test them. The first half of the seminar will be principle-based, discussing fundamental ways of moving, skills, and key moves. We will examine how the dynamics of these natural movements fit within the context of fighting. The second half will take you through exercises, fight drills including pad work, and conditional fighting methods to enhance the structure, familiarize you with skills, and give you a way to test the application of that skill in a high-intensity live situation. The conditional fighting is designed to replicate the challenge of a real fight, but with a safety factor built in. The Morris Method can be applied to any martial art and this introductory course is geared for a broad spectrum of martial artists, irrespective of style or experience. All are welcome.
